About this rug

The outline, the dark red field and the fringe all follow the oval on this hand-knotted Nain, with the fringe running right round the edge rather than along two ends. Ivory and pale grey-blue scrolls, palmettes and small blossoms cover the red, circling an ivory rosette medallion with a dark centre, and a broad ivory border carries more grey-blue vines. Its pile combines wool and silk, and it was made in Iran; it is one of our Persian Nain rugs. At 160 × 103 cm, the curved shape suits places where corners would get in the way: an entrance, a bedside, or the floor beneath an oval coffee table, where the red and ivory medallion stays in view.
