About this rug

Scrolling stems and small blossoms crowd a navy field shaped like a scalloped oval. At its centre, a red lozenge medallion opens onto an ivory heart, and slim pendants point toward both ends. Red fills the four corners outside the oval, picked out with touches of cream and sky blue, while a broad red border carries a vine of palmettes between several narrow beige guard stripes.

Knotted in Iran from natural wool, its pile stands roughly 13 mm high. Laid in a living or dining room of about 4.5 × 3.5 m, the 393 × 286 cm size leaves a band of floor showing all round. Lighter cream and blue designs are also among our hand-knotted Kashan rugs.
