About this rug

Two columns of small, dark octagonal guls run the length of this deep red runner, each one flecked with ivory, while little dark stars mark the centre line between them. A fine row of ivory dots traces the edge of the field. Beyond it, a broad dark diamond lattice fills the border, so the sides look deeper in tone than the brighter middle, and rows of zigzags close the design just before a grey-white fringe.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from natural wool, with a pile of about 8 mm, this 81 cm wide runner suits a passage of roughly 1 to 1.2 m. Similar gul designs are in our Afghan akche rug range.
