About this rug

Patches cut from different rugs are laid on the diagonal here, like brickwork, and joined with ochre-gold seams. Long rectangles in taupe, ivory, teal and mustard alternate with small squares of dark teal and terracotta, and in most of them the ghost of an older pattern still shows through. The pieces were washed, over-dyed and shaved down to a low pile of about 5 mm. There is no fringe: a narrow brown binding runs all the way round.

Every patch is hand-knotted natural wool, and the whole piece counts 80 knots per square inch. The Ultra Vintage rugs page shows more over-dyed pieces.
