About this rug

Plenty of pale butter-cream ground is left open between the motifs, so each rose and rust palmette, small blossom and leaf stands out on its own. They are mirrored down the field in loose rows, with no medallion. The border turns brick red, where feathery sand-gold sickle leaves curl between large palmettes, and a sand guard of small rosettes edges it on the outside.

Its butter-cream field and brick-red border were knotted by hand in Afghanistan, in hand-spun wool with a pile of about 1/3 inch. Slide its 226 × 168 cm under a coffee table so the front feet of the sofa rest on it, in a sitting room no smaller than about 2.9 × 2.3 m. This piece belongs with our chobi rugs from Afghanistan.
