About this rug

Rows of small rectangular panels divide the field, the garden layout that Bakhtiari designs are known for. Sky-blue panels hold a red-edged tree shaped like a pine cone and latticed in plum; they alternate with cream panels, each showing a branching brick-red sapling. The cream border keeps the theme, with plum and violet trees standing between latticed plum lozenges, and every colour is soft and muted in the chobi way.

The sky-blue and cream panels were hand-knotted in Afghanistan from 100% hand-spun wool, clipped to about 1/3 inch. Its grid covers 244 × 180 cm, a good fit beside a double bed or in a study or lounge of roughly 3 × 2.4 m, and it is grouped with our fine chobi rugs.
