About this rug

Notched, stepped corners give the raspberry-red field of this Mashad its outline, and inside it a navy oval medallion with an ivory and rose centre is pinned top and bottom by small pendants. Loose sprays of flowers are scattered across the red rather than packed in, so the ground colour stays strong. A pale blue band separates the field from a wide border of navy, cream and pink, where large lobed cartouches alternate with floral palmettes.

Hand-knotted with a pile near 8 mm, it measures 377 × 297 cm, enough to cover most of a 4.4 × 3.6 m living room. It belongs to our Mashad rug collection.
