About this rug

Rows of large rounded leaves, each with a central vein and feathered sides, are set in a staggered grid across a brick-red ground in warm golden beige. Tiny crosses fill the gaps, and there is no patterned border, so the repeat runs almost to the edges and keeps the look simple and modern. Slight shifts in the red give the surface a gently mottled tone.

This Gabbeh was knotted in Afghanistan, by hand, from hand-spun wool. Sized 195 × 155 cm, it sits well under a coffee table or crosswise at the end of a double bed; give it a floor of approximately 2.6 × 2.2 m. For other weaves from the same country, see our Afghan rugs.
