About this rug

Red eight-pointed stars on a dark navy ground make the outer border of this runner stand out, with an inner band of red serrated leaves between it and the field. In the centre, dark octagonal guls stand two abreast, quartered in ivory and red, and a chain of dark crosses with leafy arms runs between them. A creamy fringe completes both ends.

An Akche weave from Afghanistan, it has a natural wool pile close to 8 mm; its 286 × 74 cm is narrow enough for a corridor from just under a metre to about 1.15 m wide, a short landing or a bedside. Other two-column gul runners are listed with our Afghan Akche rugs.
