About this rug

Small bright ivory crosses inside 84 dark guls give the field of this akche a crisp, speckled look: six across and fourteen down on clear red, with little dotted diamond rosettes and ivory zigzags between them. The deep maroon surround is wide and fairly quiet, marked only by pale commas, four-dot rosettes and thin feather-like bands, which keeps the attention on the centre.

Made in Afghanistan, hand-knotted from natural wool and fringed in ivory at both ends, it suits a room some 3.5 × 2.7 m in size, or goes under a dining table up to 1.7 × 0.85 m with the chairs on the rug. It belongs with our Afghan akche rugs.
