About this rug

Ten big charcoal octagons stand in pairs down this bright red field, and they are the large guls that give the elephant feet design its name. Each one is split into quarters around a central cross, with small hooked shapes in every segment, and little dark crosses fill the gaps between them. The same two colours carry on into the border, where several bands of stepped motifs lead out to a white fringe at each end.

Spanning 248 × 155 cm, with a charcoal and red pile of natural wool from Afghanistan cut to roughly 8 mm, it can anchor a lounge or main bedroom about 3.1 × 2.2 m in size, or sit crosswise beneath the foot end of a double or queen bed.
