About this rug

Rather than a handful of large shapes, this Bokhara has five columns of small, dark guls, so the wine-red field reads almost as a texture. Each gul carries tiny ivory hooks, and dark star-shaped rosettes with little ivory ticks fill the spaces. The border is wide and dark, with one band of slanting leaf shapes and others of small diamonds, and the ends finish in an ivory fringe.

Every one of those small guls was knotted by hand in Afghanistan from natural wool, 80 knots to each square inch, and at 240 × 156 cm the rug covers the seating area of a room around 3 × 2.2 m without crowding it. More small-gul layouts sit among our Bokhara rugs.
