About this rug

Near-black dominates this Bokhara. The border is very wide and dark, scattered with ivory flecks and small red leaves like a starry sky, and a band of red rosettes in slanting compartments runs through it. In the garnet-red centre, 18 small black guls in two files of nine carry ivory hooks, with dark crosses between them on the centre line.

Against pale tiles or light timber, the dark frame of this Bokhara rug looks striking. Its 195 × 97 cm fits along a double bed or down a passage of about 1.25 m, and the natural wool pile is Afghan, tied by hand.
