About this rug

Beige is the ground colour here, which keeps this Kazak light despite its crimson border. A star-shaped medallion with a serrated slate-blue edge sits in the middle, its sage lobes surrounding a red octagon and a small blue flower. Half-medallions in slate blue and red reach in from both ends, and four cross-shaped flowers and small red and green stars are scattered between them. The crimson border alternates ivory interlaced knots with slate and sage stars, inside charcoal guard lines, and white fringes finish the ends.

Afghan weavers knotted the beige field and crimson border by hand, using 100% hand-spun wool. At 125 × 79 cm, this Afghan Kazak rug suits an entrance, a bedside or a reading nook of about 1.85 × 1.4 m.
