About this rug

Three medallions stand one above the other on the deep red field of this small Kazak. The top and bottom ones are slate teal with hooked arms, gold and orange detail and ivory centres, while the middle one is an ivory starburst with jagged points around a gold and red core. Sage and cream rosettes, little comb-like figures and slate half-medallions at the ends fill the space around them. A wide ivory border of red, navy and gold-olive flowers frames everything, edged by slate-blue guard stripes and white fringes.

Its slate, ivory and red pile, about 8 mm high, is 100% hand-spun wool, hand-knotted by Afghan weavers. This small Kazak rug, 116 × 83 cm, works at a front door, beside a bed or by a fireplace, in about 1.75 × 1.45 m of floor.
