About this rug

A crimson field is scattered almost evenly with beige blossoms, leafy palmettes and curled leaves on a web of thin vines, and a small upright palmette marks the exact centre. The border is wide and pale, in beige and sand, with red-outlined palmettes, little red sprigs and a guard of red S-scrolls. A narrow red edge runs around it, and white fringes finish the short ends.

Its crimson and beige wool was spun by hand, and the rug was then hand-knotted in Afghanistan with a pile close to 1/3 inch. At 197 × 150 cm it is a good match for a reading nook, a front hall or one side of a double bed; it needs a floor near 2.6 × 2.1 m. It is listed in our Afghan chobi collection.
