About this rug

One tall medallion fills the middle of this Kazak: a pale teal panel with an ivory frame and hooked arms at top and bottom, and a red octagon at its heart holding a small ivory square. Stylised trees and small geometric motifs are dotted over the surrounding brick-red ground. The ivory border alternates red rosettes with slanting navy and red leaves, between narrow navy guard lines.

Its hand-spun wool, knotted by hand in Afghanistan, was softened by sun-washing; at 206 × 151 cm the rug is a good size for a study, a bedroom floor of about 2.7 × 2.1 m or the open floor facing a sofa. See our Kazak rugs for other medallion forms.
