About this rug

Black is the ground of this Jaipur rug, densely sprigged with grey, ivory and burgundy flowers around a burgundy medallion with lobed edges and an ivory rosette at its heart. The field narrows into stepped arches at each end, with ivory corner panels of grey and black flowers outside them. A wide burgundy border of ivory, soft-gold and grey palmettes surrounds everything, with a black outer edge and pale fringes, and the whole pile is wool and silk, hand-knotted in India. Measuring 225 × 150 cm, the black and burgundy design fits a living area of roughly 2.85 × 2.1 m, or sits crosswise beneath the lower half of a queen bed, leaving roughly 35 cm on each side.
