About this rug

Each of the twenty-four cream panels on this somak holds a sea-green motif with upturned, hooked ends, set on a small red block and surrounded by a grid of little red and olive stars. The panels stand four across and six down, separated by strips of the red ground with tiny ivory marks where they cross. The main border is red, alternating ivory and sage rosettes with ivory double-hook motifs, inside olive-green guards and an outer band of ivory scrolls.

It is a hand-woven Afghan piece in 100% natural wool, and its 241 × 174 cm fits under a double bed, while in a lounge it can lie before a three-seater sofa. The kilim and somak rugs section has more panelled designs like this one.
