About this rug

Crimson at the centre and dark burgundy at the edges give this Bokhara two depths of red. Four columns of small, near-black guls with ivory hooks cover the field, and dark stepped crosses sit in the diagonal gaps, so the pattern looks staggered. The deep border is built from several narrow bands of tiny diamonds and ivory dots, ending in an ivory fringe.

Afghanistan is the origin: the crimson and burgundy natural wool was knotted by hand there with 80 knots per square inch, and its 242 × 164 cm size can define a seating area around 3 × 2.2 m or lie across the lower half of a queen bed.
