About this rug

Small diamonds built from ivory dots hide in the border of this akche, set inside a band of dark and red triangles, with pale comma-like flecks scattered over the deep maroon bands beyond. The field is a lighter, slightly coral red carrying 84 dark octagonal guls in six columns of fourteen, each with a cross of ivory hooks, alternating with dark red eight-pointed stars.

Ivory fringes close both ends of this hand-knotted Afghan piece, and its natural wool covers enough floor for a three-seater sofa and two chairs in a lounge of about 3.5 × 2.6 m. Browse other Afghan akche wool rugs.
