About this rug

Several narrow bands, rather than a wide trellis, build the border of this Afghan akche: small dark cross-flowers spaced along red, hooked leaf shapes and rows of tiny stars. Inside them, the rust-red field holds three columns of six guls, each with a large stepped cross at its centre and small hooked figures in the quarters. Compact clusters of four little diamonds fill the spaces between the guls.
