About this rug

An indigo border with red and pink palmettes frames the crimson field of this Tabriz, which is filled with fine flowering vines. At the centre, an ivory flower-shaped medallion worked in navy, gold and rust sends a navy pendant up and down the long axis, and the four corners hold sage-green and ivory blossoms. Narrow ivory and gold stripes run either side of the border, and the whole design was hand-knotted in Iran in natural wool, with a 13 mm pile. At 390 × 305 cm (almost 12 m²), this crimson and indigo piece from our Persian rugs made by hand needs a large room, about 4.5 × 3.65 m, or can sit under a dining table measuring up to 2.5 × 1.65 m, chairs included.
