About this rug

Fifteen octagonal guls in three columns of five march down the red field, each split into green and saffron quarters around a small navy cross. Clusters of tiny slate-blue flowers sit between them, a cooler note that the borders pick up: a slate-blue band of red flower heads, then teal and navy stripes, with fringes on both short ends. This red filpai, a hand-knotted Afghan piece in natural wool, is one of our akche woollen rugs. Measuring 205 × 136 cm, it can mark out a sofa-and-armchair group in a lounge near 2.65 × 1.95 m, or lie across the foot of a queen bed with the green and saffron guls on show.
