About this rug

Seven slim columns of small octagonal guls run the length of the deep red field, each gul quartered by an ivory cross and spaced by cross-shaped motifs flecked with ivory. A red band set with small dark lozenges frames the field, and beyond it the border repeats rows of red stars and wavy lines on a dark ground before the ivory fringe.

Its wool was hand-knotted in Afghanistan. At 297 × 197 cm it is long enough to sit crosswise beneath a king bed, leaving roughly 57 cm of rug either side of the mattress. Our Bokhara rugs show how differently these small guls can be arranged.
