About this rug

Four ivory corner pieces, each touched with sky blue, brighten the outer field of this signed Kashan. Between them lies a long navy oval with scalloped edges, thick with flowering vines, and at its middle a red lozenge medallion encloses an ivory ring and a pale blue heart. Red fills the gaps between oval and corners, and the wide red border is worked with palmettes on a twisting stem, inside beige guard stripes.

Every knot in its natural wool pile was tied by hand in Iran, and with a 392 × 295 cm footprint it needs a main living or dining room of some 4.5 × 3.6 m. Set it beside our other Kashan rugs to compare field colours.
