About this rug
A many-petalled ivory and gold rosette inside a navy ring marks the middle of this Sutri chobi, surrounded by a halo of pale sage flowers. The terracotta field around it is densely covered with small blossoms and palmettes on fine stems, and large ivory corner spandrels shape it into a long hexagon. A wide navy border carries ivory, gold and sage palmettes between narrow ivory guards.
Wool spun by hand and knotted in Afghanistan forms the pile, and a pale fringe trims each end. A formal lounge of 3.4 × 2.4 m or so frames it well, and it also lies neatly crosswise beneath a queen bed. Compare it with other Afghan chobi pieces.
