About this rug

Cherry red and charcoal are the two tones of this akche. Two files of four octagonal guls run down the field, each split into quarters, with a dense centre of small circlets and charcoal corners holding trefoils; hooked, tree-like figures stand between the files. A bold lattice of red diamonds on charcoal checks forms the broad border, with an outer band of curling leaves and a fine sawtooth edge.

From Afghanistan, it is natural wool with a pile roughly 8 mm deep and white fringe at the ends, and at this size it can lie beside a double bed, under a desk chair or in a room near 2.6 × 2.1 m. More woollen akche rugs are in the range.
