About this rug

Four big diamonds with sawtooth edges are stacked along this runner, built from rings of green, orange, rust, teal and yellow. The third has an ivory ground around a red stepped cross, and the last closes on a small white diamond outlined in blue. On either side the colour changes in patches of saffron, teal, rust and charcoal, carrying rows of hooked scrolls. A band of triangles in red, green and teal crosses each end, ahead of a charcoal stripe and grey fringe.

The saffron, teal and rust wool, 100% natural, was woven flat by hand in Afghanistan. This Afghan kilim is 75 cm wide and 203 cm long, so it suits a passage of about 95 to 115 cm across, a bedroom corridor or the strip beside a bed.
