Description

Afghan Baluch rugs are hand-knotted tribal weavings made by Baluch tribes in western Afghanistan, admired for their earthy tones, durability, and cultural authenticity. Typically woven with a soft wool pile on a wool or cotton foundation, they feature motifs such as prayer niches, geometric medallions, tree of life patterns, and stylized florals. Their color palette is dominated by deep browns, rich reds, dark blues, and ivory accents, traditionally achieved with natural dyes. Often made in smaller formats, Afghan Baluch rugs serve beautifully as prayer rugs, accent pieces, or collector’s items. About this rug

Eight stepped medallions, set in two columns of four, give this Baluch rug a strong rhythm. Each is outlined in camel gold around a dark aubergine core marked with a row of small ivory dashes, and a thin dark line divides the red field down the middle, with little comb shapes in the spaces between. The border is a deep, dark band flecked with tiny red and ivory marks, wrapped in several narrow stripes, and there is fringe at both ends.

Knotted by hand in wool to a half-inch pile, it has a footprint of 200 × 105 cm, right for a bedside, a study or an entrance of about 2.6 × 1.7 m. See the handmade Baluch rug collection.
