About this rug

Paired dark octagonal guls march down the bright red field of this Bokhara runner, each quartered in red and ivory, with dark eight-pointed stars set between the pairs. Along both sides the border lines up large hooked diamonds, dotted in ivory and framed by dark diagonal bands, while a row of small arrow-shaped motifs runs around the outer edge above an ivory fringe.

Knotted by hand in Afghanistan, with an 8 mm pile of natural wool, the 290 × 81 cm length works in a passage about 1 to 1.2 m across or on a landing at the top of the stairs. Shorter pieces with similar guls are part of our Bokhara rug range.
