About this rug

The medallion is a stepped grey lozenge with a powder-blue lozenge inside it and a small ivory and navy flower at the centre, and grey shields topped with palmettes extend it towards each end. The ivory field around it is filled with scrolling stems and blossoms in navy, olive, slate blue and a little soft red, while the corners are dove grey with pale blue inner sections.

A grey main border of navy-outlined palmettes sits inside ivory stripes, and every motif is worked in a 100% natural wool pile, about half an inch deep, knotted by hand in Iran. With the front legs of a sofa on it, the 317 × 228 cm rug sits well in a lounge close to 3.8 × 2.9 m. The grey medallion design is listed under Kashan rugs.
