About this rug

Charcoal on cream gives this Kashan an almost monochrome look. Small flowers and curling leaves in dark grey, dove grey and taupe are spread thickly over the ivory ground, gathering around a compact grey rosette at the centre with slim pendants above and below. Instead of a dark border, the frame stays light: an ivory main band with a charcoal flowering vine, flanked by a run of thin grey and taupe stripes.

The weaving town is Kashan, in Iran, and the pile is 100% wool, knotted by hand. On a lounge floor of about 3.9 × 2.6 m, its 325 × 196 cm sits with an even border of floor; a long bedroom works too, and it is filed under Kashan rugs.
