This is a hand-knotted Kashan rug from Iran, woven in a classic medallion design with fine floral detail throughout. The deep navy blue field gives the rug strong presence, beautifully contrasted with ivory, soft gold, light blue, and subtle red accents.

About this rug

Small blossoms and palmettes in ivory, soft gold and light blue cover the deep navy field of this Kashan from edge to edge, packed closely enough that the navy reads as a dark backdrop between them. At the centre is a compact round medallion, ivory with a light blue ring, small enough that the floral pattern stays the main feature. A wide navy border repeats larger flowers between narrow sand-coloured guard stripes.

Its 100% wool pile was knotted by hand in Kashan, Iran. Laid in a lounge or dining room of around 4.7 × 3.7 m, it leaves an even margin of bare floor on all sides, and a dining table for eight fits on it with the chairs pulled out. Navy is one of several ground colours among our Kashan rugs.
