About this rug

Twenty small ivory guls, four across and five down, stand on the deep bottle-green field of this hand-knotted Afghan piece from our Bokhara rugs collection, each gul quartered in red and orange, with red cross-shaped motifs in the spaces between. Around the field, a band of blue diamonds and red hourglass shapes gives way to a deep red outer border scattered with curled saffron motifs, all knotted in natural wool, with cream fringes at the ends. Its 180 × 123 cm size suits a study, a bedside or the hearth in front of a fireplace, and the green field holds its own in a small sitting room of 2.4 × 1.8 m or so.
