About this rug

Seven columns of round guls, fourteen to a column, crowd the centre of this akche: 98 in all, each a dark disc with a pale four-armed pinwheel inside. Dark red stepped stars sit between them, and the outline of the field steps in and out around the outer guls instead of running straight. The surround is unusually broad and very deep maroon, with fine pale dots in narrow bands.

Afghan in origin and hand-knotted in natural wool with a short ivory fringe, it can go under a king bed set crosswise or fill a room of roughly 3.5 × 2.7 m on its own. More are listed under Afghan akche rugs.
