About this rug

Thirty small octagons, slate blue and quartered around red and ivory centres, line up in three columns of ten on a crimson ground. Cross-shaped stars fill the gaps between them, alternating ivory and dark green, and a dotted ivory and red band frames the field. The widest border is a chain of powder-blue diamonds, each holding a pale cross, set between two red stripes scattered with tiny green and ivory crosses, and white fringes trim both short ends.

Afghan weavers tied the crimson pile by hand in 100% natural wool, 80 knots to every square inch. At 180 × 126 cm, this Afghan Akche rug suits a floor area of about 2.4 × 1.9 m, such as a reading corner, an entrance hall or the space beside a double bed.
