About this rug

Four guls sit in a column on the red field of this small Bokhara. Each is quartered in ivory and gold and outlined in black around a red centre, and small ivory and navy motifs flank them at the edges. Gold and peach star-rosettes run round the inner border, a diamond chain in ivory and navy surrounds them, and the end panels repeat the diamonds before the white fringes.

Its four guls and their borders are 100% natural wool, hand-knotted in Afghanistan. Each square inch holds 80 knots, and the pile stands near 8 mm. A 92 × 63 cm mat is handy just inside the front door, by a basin or at a bedside. Room-size versions of the gul design are in our Bokhara collection.
