About this rug

An ivory border frames this kilim, its hooked scrolls changing colour as they travel: rust near one end, then navy, sky blue and mauve. Inside, a column of serrated diamonds with small hourglass centres is worked in olive, aubergine, teal, rust and mustard, outlined by ivory zigzags. The side panels shift through teal, sky blue, orange and purple, scattered with little cross-shaped flowers. Rows of stepped pyramids and a teal stripe close each end above a grey fringe.

Its hooked scrolls and patchwork panels are 100% natural wool, flat-woven by hand in Afghanistan. It is 196 cm long and 85 cm wide, so this kilim sits well in a hallway between 105 and 125 cm across, or beside a bed.
