About this rug

Sky blue and olive green quarter each of the eight big guls on this raspberry-red akche, and a stepped red cross dotted with small squares marks every centre. The guls stand in pairs, four pairs from end to end, with small blue and green stars between them. Inside the outer lattice of green and gold crosses, a narrow red band is lined with small hooked S shapes.

Afghan-made in natural wool, it can lie crosswise under a double bed, where its 237 cm runs about 50 cm past each side of a 137 cm mattress, and a 3 m by 2.3 m bedroom gives it a margin all round. Other red-ground designs are among our colourful akche rugs.
