About this rug

Its border is the striking part: a bold zigzag band in dark burgundy circles the whole rug, between outer rows of small rosettes and lines of tiny ivory dots. Inside it, the red field carries five columns of little octagonal guls, each with a pale cross at its heart, and dark eight-armed flowers set between the columns.

This one was hand-knotted in Afghanistan, with a natural wool pile close to 8 mm, and ivory fringe edges the two ends. At 290 × 192 cm it fits a 3.5 × 2.5 m bedroom, or spans the width of a queen bed with roughly 70 cm to spare on each side. See our Bokhara rugs for other border styles.
