About this rug

Eight wine-red palmettes stand in a ring around a small celadon rosette at the heart of this ivory Kashan, and a navy and red flower sits at the rosette's very centre. Fine scrolling vines spread from that ring to every edge, carrying blossoms in slate blue, olive gold and soft grey. Its corners are drawn only in outline, which keeps the whole field light, and the ivory main border repeats the wine-red and blue palmettes within thin guards.

Its makers in Iran knotted it by hand, using natural wool and cotton. Measuring 343 × 243 cm, it leaves open floor on every side of a lounge near 4 × 3 m. This celadon-centred piece is one of our Kashan rugs.
