About this rug

Deep navy carries a dense cover of small flowers in red, ivory, gold and pale blue. In the middle, a rounded red medallion with curving, lobed edges holds a cross-shaped ivory centre around a pale-blue core, and red pendants reach towards both ends. Red corner pieces open into ivory quarter-panels, and the red main border of scrolling vines and palmettes is lined with pale blue-grey guard stripes.

Its pile, 100% wool throughout, was knotted by hand in Kashan, Iran, and the rug measures 369 × 274 cm. Navy-field and red-field pieces sit together among our Kashan rugs from Iran.
