About this rug

A broad frame of deep wine red surrounds a much brighter red centre on this rug, so the field glows against its darker edges. Inside, eight large near-black octagons stand in two columns of four, each divided into quarters, with small dark crosses between them. The frame is packed with tiny diamond motifs in several bands, which reads as an even, close texture from across the room, and the ends have a short white fringe.

In natural wool from Afghanistan, with a pile some 8 mm high, this 247 × 159 cm rug will anchor a sofa and two armchairs, with their front legs on it, in a 3 × 2.2 m living space, or run crosswise beneath a double bed. Similar large-gul designs appear in our Afghan woollen rug collection.
