This stunning Afghan Chobi Veg-Dye rug is a hand-knotted creation made from fine hand-spun wool and colored with natural vegetable dyes. It features a bold tribal geometric pattern with layered medallions and angular motifs, woven in warm and cool tones of teal, rust, camel, ochre, brown, and charcoal.

The hand-knotting technique gives the rug a soft yet dense texture, offering both luxury and durability. Its natural vegetable dyes create a beautifully aged, organic finish that will mellow gracefully over time.

About this rug

Wavy horizontal bands of teal, rust, camel, plum, blue-grey and charcoal run across this rug like layers of rock, and over them sits a large stepped medallion drawn in a thin ivory line. At its heart, a dotted ivory ring encloses rust cross motifs, and more crosses with ivory dots are spaced around it. The border is a zigzag of coloured triangles, broken at the corners and halfway along each side by round panels that each hold a cross.

It was knotted by hand in Afghanistan, and the bands owe their colours to vegetable dyes on hand-spun wool. At 2.92 × 1.88 m it can anchor a lounge or study of about 3.5 × 2.5 m. It belongs to our Afghan chobi rugs, though its design is far more graphic than most.
