Description

This is a finely woven Kashan rug, known for its elegant symmetry and detailed floral composition. The design features a well-defined central medallion set within a densely decorated field of scrolling vines, flowers, and palmettes, all arranged with excellent balance and clarity. The drawing is refined and precise, which is characteristic of quality Kashan workshop weaving.

The colour palette is soft and sophisticated, built around a warm ivory and cream field.

About this rug

Understated at its centre, this Kashan has a small cross-shaped rosette in grey and ivory rather than a large medallion. Around it, the ivory field opens into a broad lozenge of flowering sprays, picked out in plum, slate blue and a little gold, with leafy tendrils linking them. Taupe-grey corners close off the field, and the same colour carries through the wide main border, patterned with larger blossoms between narrow guards.

This is hand-knotted 100% wool from Kashan, Iran. In a lounge, a rug of 295 × 194 cm leaves an even margin of floor in a space near 3.6 by 2.5 m; in a bedroom, it can run crosswise under a queen bed. It is grouped with our Kashan rugs from Iran.
